Bollywood actor Dharmendra is always in the headlines. Dharmendra has fans not only in the country but also abroad. Dharmendra’s popularity around the world can be gauged from the fact that the Senate and General Assembly of the US state of New Jersey decided to honor him with the Lifetime Achievement award. This honor will be given to him for his valuable contribution to the Bollywood industry. He has appeared in a 6-decade long film career and over 300 films.

First and only Indian actor to receive such award

Due to ongoing pandemic, this award award ceremony hosted online by Bollywood Insider(a US-based publishing company). This is the first time the US state has given such an honor to an Indian actor, says organizers of agenc. As per IANS News Agency, Dharmendra thanked Bollywood Insider after honoured with this award and said in his statement, “I am very happy and proud to receive this honor.”

Planned to Call Dharmendra to New Jersey to Honour

Initially there was plan of committee that Dharmendra should be call to New Jersey Senate to receive this honor. But they had to cancel this plan due to travel restrictions because of Covid-19 and this event happened online. Senator Michael Doherty proposed to honor the superstar. According to him, all the 120 members of both the houses passed the motion unopposed.The award ceremony was attended by many famous celebrities including Indian Counselor General Ambassador Randhir Jaiswal in New York and Varinder Bhalla, publisher of Bollywood Insider.

Dharmendra Contribution to Bollywood Industry

Dharmendra made his Bollywood debut with the 1960 film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere and in a 6-decade-long career, he worked in many films whether it is romantic, social, action or drama. The Government of India also awarded him Padma Bhushan for his invaluable contribution to Indian cinema.

Dharmendra also won the National Award (Best Popular Film Providing Wholesale Entertainment) for his 1990 film Ghayal. However, he never received any award for Best Actor or Supporting Actor (National or Filmfare) throughout his film career. Filmfare gave him the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.

Dharmendra’s upcoming film will be Apne 2. The 3 generations of Deols (Dharmendra, his son Sunny, Bobby and grandson Karan Deol will be seen in this movie. This movie will release Next year.
