The first Indian movie that made every Indian proud by making its way into the Oscar nomination is “Mother India” (1957) starring Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, and Raj Kumar, directed by Mehboob Khan.

The story focuses on a helpless, poor village woman who in the absence of her husband struggles to raise her children and survive against a selfish, cunning moneylender. Despite of her hardships, she manages to set a perfect example of an ideal Indian woman.

Salaam Bombay! (1988)

Lagaan (2001)

This Movie “Lagaan”(2001) not only got clicked with the Indian masses but also with people from all around the world. The fact that many people don’t know about this film is that, this movie has been made on an unprecedented budget of 250 millions and to their good luck this generated thrice the actual investment.  

Lagaan revolves around a village, burdened with high taxes and exploitation whose inhabitants found themselves in a do or die situation, when a British officer challenges them to win the cricket match if they want their village to be tax-free. As of Now, the movie has been regarded as one of the legendary films of India.

Little terrorist (2005)

Do you remember Salman Khan’s super hit film “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” how the little girl, Munni crosses the Indo-Pakistan border and how she struggles to go back to her homeland i.e. Pakistan. 

Little terrorist has almost a similar storyline, How a 10-year-old boy Jamal crosses the Indo-Pakistan border while playing cricket and then how he had to go through so many difficulties and hardships just to return to his homeland (Pakistan). The movie written and produced by Ashvin Kumar somehow manages to have your undivided attention.

This one of the short documentary film directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The film has won awards such as Grand Prix, Tampere international short film festival. The film is a great attempt at making people aware of the endeavors delinquent children face in their day to day life.If you are looking for a movie that will not just bring a gush of emotions within you but would also force your brain cells to work, this is the movie you need to watch!
